Have you ever found yourself questioning reality, itching to unearth the secrets beyond the mundane? That pull of the unknown is what nudged me off the beaten path. I’m Shawn Thomas, and my voyage into the mysterious realms began as a whisper of curiosity until it turned into a full-blown obsession.
Starting my career as a truck driver, I was constantly surrounded by the vast emptiness of the wilderness. Each mile taken, each shadow noticed, fueled my imagination. Stories of cryptids and eerie happenings echoed in my mind, urging me to get involved deeper. They were more than bedtime stories—they were beckoning adventures waiting to be uncovered.
Our everyday lives often keep us tethered to routine, leaving those uncharted mysteries to be forgotten or feared, but it doesn’t have to be more than just a dream. I’m here to tell you that exploring the hidden is entirely possible, and it starts with embracing your curiosity. Trust your instinct if it nudges you to look beyond ordinary boundaries. The edge of the ordinary is where the extraordinary lives.
The Road That Started It All: From Truck Driver to Author
Driving a semi-truck through Canada’s backcountry isn’t just about moving freight; it’s a journey into solitude and reflection. Those long hours on the road gave me a canvas to paint my thoughts. With each delivery, I traveled through landscapes steeped in folklore and secret whispers.
Every haul was a chance encounter with tales of the unexplained. The road itself became my storyteller, with its nocturnal serenades and shadowy figures that flickered past. What some saw as lonely highways, I saw as pathways littered with stories begging to be told.
These tales weren’t just idle chatter to me. They were alive, urging me to dig deeper and indulge in their mysteries. As miles rolled by beneath my wheels, that quiet curiosity started evolving into determination—a mission to unveil the truths wrapped in wilderness legends.
For those feeling their own pull toward the shadows, my advice is to embrace the journey right outside your door. Adventure lies in openness to the unexpected. So, whether you’re navigating inner highways of thought or outer roads, allow yourself the luxury of exploration.
A Personal Quest Inspired by Loss: Honoring Nathan

Losing someone close to you changes everything. After my cousin Nathan passed away, something shifted in me. Our bond had been tight, built on late-night chats filled with wild stories about cryptids, spirits, and all things eerie. He wasn’t just my cousin; he was my best friend and fellow believer in all things strange.
Nathan’s passing left a gaping hole, but it also ignited a sense of purpose within me. It wasn’t enough to sit back and let these stories fade into memory. I felt this burning need to honor him by pushing forward in our shared passion for the unknown.
Turning grief into action isn’t easy. It’s a journey, one that involves accepting the pain while keeping the memory alive. Nathan’s spirit is woven into every page I’ve written. He’s my silent companion guiding me as I explore the depths of paranormal phenomena.
If you’re dealing with loss, consider channeling your emotions into something meaningful. Pursue that hobby you both loved or start that project you talked about for ages. It doesn’t erase the pain, but it keeps their spirit alive, giving you a sense of connection and a way to heal through honoring their memory.

A Deep Dive into ‘The Long Road to the Unknown’

‘The Long Road to the Unknown’ isn’t just another book on paranormal phenomena. It’s a blend of autobiographical elements and thrilling narratives that take you right into the heart of the unknown. Each chapter allows you to travel through my experiences, exploring Bigfoot sightings and mysterious light formations in the sky.
These stories are raw, drawn from those long hours on the road and the solitude that let my mind wander into uncharted territories. Every page is a piece of that journey, where reality isn’t always what it seems, and the shadows play tricks on a weary traveler.
Beyond the spine-chilling encounters, there’s a personal element. Plenty of folks feel a disconnect between who they are and who they want to be. This book explores how chasing those elusive shadows helped me bridge that gap. The journey is as much internal as it is external, pushing the boundaries of what to believe.
The real heart of this book is transformation. It’s about how a truck driver’s mundane reality spiraled into a chase after shadows that defied logic. It’s heartfelt and intense, aiming to inspire anyone who’s ever felt the tug of something greater just beyond reach.
If you’re ready to push boundaries and question what’s possible, let this book be your guide. It’s not just a collection of eerie tales but an open invitation to think and see beyond what’s in front of you. Open these pages and discover that the road to the unknown can be just as inviting as the comforts of home.
Terrifying Encounters: Bigfoot, Cryptids, and Beyond

While navigating those lonely highways, my encounters with the unknown weren’t just limited to distant sightings or whispered tales. Each of these terrifying moments left an indelible mark, a mix of fear and exhilaration that still fuels my quest.
From the colossal shadow of what could only be Bigfoot crossing in the dead of night to cryptids rumored to inhabit the dense foliage, I found myself questioning the fine line between legend and reality. These experiences are more than just stories; they’re snapshots of history that can’t be easily explained away.
When faced with the inexplicable, the mind tries to rationalize what the eyes see. But what happens when the evidence isn’t just hearsay but tracks left in the mud and eerie sounds echoing through the trees? These moments challenge everything I’ve known, pushing me toward understanding more about these elusive creatures.
For anyone intrigued by the unknown, skepticism is healthy—it’s smart to remain critical. But don’t let it blind you to possibilities. Document your experiences, observe the details, and gather evidence where you can. Every shadow cast can be a clue leading you closer to answering some pretty big questions about our world.
As I peeled back the layers of folklore, my initial trepidation gave way to a thirst for discovery. It’s about seeing the world through a lens that blends reality with a touch of the fantastical, and I’m inviting you to join in that adventure. Be brave, keep questioning, and maybe you’ll find yourself face-to-face with the unknown.
Mystical Legends and Paranormal Phenomena: Fact or Fiction?

Legends tell tales of Skinwalkers and ethereal shadows flitting between realms, stories that blur the fine line between myth and the uncanny. Each time I embarked on a journey into the wild, the distinction between storytelling and my lived experience seemed to fade, leaving me to grapple with one pressing question: what if these legends held truth?
Through firsthand encounters and relentless digging into local folklore, I pieced together narratives that echoed eerily similar themes. The eerie stillness in haunted woods and whispers of ancient curses added layers to these tales, nudging me to reconsider what I’ve been taught about reality.
Exploring mystical legends requires more than passive listening; it demands a willingness to engage with possibilities that defy conventional logic. While others might brush them off as mere stories, I’ve found that the terrifying beauty of these legends often holds kernels of truth. They are narratives shaped by time, history, and collective fear or fascination.
Those inspired to explore these phenomena should keep their skepticism balanced with an open mind. It’s crucial to safeguard against gullibility, yet allow wonder to guide you into seeking answers, knowing that the truth might be far stranger than fiction.
This chapter of my life reminded me that not all answers are found in daylight; some reside in shadows. For anyone daring enough to look, these stories offer a chance at discovery and transformation, proving that sometimes, reality is simply a matter of perspective. Be it ghosts, cryptids, or supernatural legends, it’s about what we’re willing to see beyond the ordinary.
Why I Wrote These Books: Inspiring Curiosity and Exploration

Books have this uncanny ability to reach across time and space, connecting readers with ideas and stories that might not otherwise surface in everyday life. That’s exactly what I aimed to achieve by writing about my experiences with the unknown.
I didn’t set out to convince anyone or proclaim that every shadow is a spirit or every sound in the forest is a cryptid. My intent was to spark curiosity, to fan the flames of wonder that lie within us all. Whether you’re deeply rooted in skepticism or open to the unusual, these books are invitations to explore the world’s mysteries, both seen and unseen.

Hi Shawn. Wow – you’ve been busy! I too love everything to do with Bigfoot, but being from the UK, I don’t have quite the same opportunity to get out there and search as you do. However, I do love watching TV programmes about the hunt for Bigfoot, which I totally believe to be a real being. I love that you have turned your grief at the loss of your cousin into something positive and creative and I applaud that. I an interested in reading your book and I also find myself driving a lot but usually as taxi driver to my children. Do you have an audiobook version available yet?
Hi Gail,
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! It truly means a lot to hear from someone who shares a love for Bigfoot, even from across the pond in the UK. Watching Bigfoot documentaries and TV shows is a great way to stay connected to the mystery—I do the same when I can’t get out there myself!
I appreciate your thoughtful comment about my cousin Nathan. Turning my grief into something meaningful has been a big part of my journey, and knowing it resonates with others makes it all the more worthwhile.
As for the audiobook, that’s a fantastic suggestion! I don’t have one available just yet, but it’s definitely something I’ve been considering for the future. I’ll be sure to share any updates on that as soon as it’s in the works.
Thanks again for taking the time to reach out. I hope you enjoy the book if you get the chance to read it—and safe travels during your “taxi driver” adventures with the kids!
Best wishes,
Shawn

Hey, Shawn,
This reminds me of a certain story I listened to last year on one of the BBC’s documentaries (BBC radio). Since I was a kid, I always find it difficult to believe in such tales. We also have them here in South Sudan, making your comments valid and true that most of us universally believe in folktales. Even the bestselling books on earth are based on myths.
In the early 1990s, my own mom was so scared that she saw a man dancing in the sun. None of us saw it at the time, even though she said she saw it when at our backyard.
How then can we convince our science-oriented minds to at least accept these accounts?
John
Hi John,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! It’s fascinating how stories of mysterious encounters and folklore seem to transcend cultures and borders. I find it incredible that even in South Sudan, similar tales are passed down, reinforcing the idea that myths and unexplained phenomena are a shared human experience.
Your mom’s experience of seeing a man dancing in the sun is a powerful example of how personal encounters can leave lasting impressions, even when others don’t witness them. It highlights how deeply these experiences can affect us, regardless of scientific explanations—or the lack thereof.
I believe that part of the challenge lies in balancing logic with curiosity. While science often demands hard evidence, personal experiences, emotions, and cultural narratives bring another layer of truth that science sometimes struggles to measure. Maybe it’s not about convincing science-oriented minds to accept these stories outright but rather about encouraging open-mindedness and exploring the possibilities that lie beyond what we currently understand.
Thanks again for sharing your insights, John. I really appreciate your perspective and look forward to hearing more of your thoughts!
Best regards,
Shawn

Writing and blogging have absolutely helped me discover new aspects of my creativity. They’ve pushed me to think outside the box, experiment with storytelling, and even connect with readers in ways I hadn’t anticipated.

To answer your question about staying motivated during challenges or writer’s block—I completely understand how tough those moments can be. For me, stepping away from the screen and taking a walk or exploring nature often helps clear my mind and spark fresh ideas. I also keep a journal handy to jot down random thoughts, no matter how small—they often lead to bigger ideas later. Setting small, achievable goals and celebrating progress, no matter how minor, also keeps me moving forward.
For anyone just starting their blogging journey, my advice is to focus on your passion and let that drive your content. Start by writing about what excites you most, and don’t worry too much about perfection at first—just get your thoughts out there. Consistency is key, even if it’s just one post a week, and engaging with others in your niche can help build confidence and connections.
I truly appreciate your thoughtful questions and support—it’s readers like you who make this journey so rewarding! Thanks again for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts. I’m excited to see where your own blogging journey takes you!

Shawn
This article is truly fascinating, Shawn! Your journey from truck driver to author, fueled by curiosity and a thirst for uncovering the unknown, is inspiring. It raises some compelling questions: what was your most memorable cryptid encounter, and how do you decide which experiences make it into your books? Also, as someone intrigued by the paranormal, what advice would you give to beginners eager to start their own exploration of mysterious phenomena? Thank you for sharing your story and encouraging others to embrace the adventure beyond the ordinary!
Thank you so much, Herman! I truly appreciate your kind words and thoughtful questions.
My most memorable cryptid encounter has to be the time I ventured deep into the Alberta Rockies and experienced what I believe were signs of Bigfoot activity—tree knocks, strange vocalizations, and even discovering unusual footprints. That moment sparked my deeper dive into researching and writing about the unknown.
When it comes to deciding which experiences make it into my books, I focus on stories that not only stand out as personally impactful but also resonate with readers—whether through suspense, mystery, or sheer curiosity. I aim to create a balance between personal encounters and well-researched phenomena to keep things both engaging and informative.
For beginners eager to explore the paranormal, my advice is to start with research and build a solid foundation. Read books, watch documentaries, and connect with others who share your interests. Equip yourself with basic tools like voice recorders, EMF detectors, and journals to document your findings. Most importantly, stay open-minded but grounded in your approach—let curiosity guide you, but don’t forget to question everything along the way.
Thank you again for reading and for your support. I’m excited to continue sharing my journey and hearing more about yours too! Feel free to reach out anytime with more questions or thoughts!
Best regards,
Shawn
